Dent In The Car
Broke. That’s the tip of my pen as I begin to
Write. About important things in life, like when I’m thinking
I take my chances running up the hill
In the night with the dark, and the stars and cars
It doesn’t matter if they stop for me since I know that the dent will be paid for with all of the insurance coverage.
Take a step back, cut the crap, straighten up.
Cross your fingers, count to ten as I begin.
Peace. We could all use some, couldn’t we?
Psych. There’s a fat chance of that ever happening.
I can not stop once I have begun, no fun
I can not stop until the job is all done, son
Take a lesson from me do what I wish
Please take notes, please take notes, there’ll be a pop quiz.
Take my word, when I say to you. It’s as clear as crystal chandeliers.
chorus:
Your- power is over in this, our finest hour, when I, take in all that has been sung.
I. Know that you’re just putting on a show
Fake. Watching it is more than I can take.
But here I am I’m back again, once again
I couldn’t let you go on like this
You’d stunt your growth just to take the pill
Even though it’s
lame you know that that is just exactly what I did.
It seems that a lot of the heavier, more aggressive songs, are very short in length. It's almost as if many rock bands (excluding Tool) don't have the energy or creativity to keep the momentum of a good rock tune going past the 3 minute mark. Alex set out with this realization in mind and tried to create a rock epic of his own. The lyrics were written while taking an evening jog through Evergreen Cemetary. Alex was clearly frustrated about something at the time which only contributed to the overall mood of the song. Ending with a string-inspired outro, "Dent In The Car" contains all the elements of a fast paced rock track.
Despite a riff in the verse that remains one of Alex's favorites, "Dent In
The Car" is not a very good song.
